A Gentle Flow Towards Deep Relaxation & Inner Balance

Description

Shirodhara is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy in which a continuous, gentle stream of warm, suitably selected liquid is poured over the forehead. The treatment is traditionally used to promote relaxation, calm the mind, and support balance within the body and mind.

At Sattva Ayurveda, Shirodhara is approached as a personalised Ayurvedic therapy. The choice of liquid, treatment duration, and overall approach may be determined according to an individual’s constitution, current condition, and therapeutic requirements.

What is Shirodhara?

The word Shirodhara comes from the Sanskrit terms Shiro, meaning head, and Dhara, meaning continuous flow. During the therapy, a specially prepared vessel allows a steady stream of warm oil or another practitioner-selected liquid to flow gently over the forehead while you rest comfortably.

The rhythmic and continuous flow creates a deeply soothing experience and encourages a state of physical and mental relaxation. Shirodhara may be performed independently or incorporated into a broader Ayurvedic treatment plan.

At Sattva Ayurveda, every treatment begins with an appropriate consultation so that the therapy can be selected and adapted to your individual needs.

How Does Shirodhara Work?

During a Shirodhara session, you lie comfortably on an Ayurvedic treatment table while a controlled stream of warm therapeutic liquid is directed onto the forehead.

The gentle, rhythmic flow continues for a prescribed period, allowing you to relax without interruption. Depending on the Ayurvedic assessment, different liquids such as herbal oils, milk, buttermilk, or other preparations may be selected.

The experience is traditionally associated with a sense of calmness and relaxation and may be particularly valuable as part of a holistic wellness routine.

Benefits

Our Shirodhara Treatment Process

01

Ayurvedic Consultation

Your treatment begins with an individual assessment. Our practitioner considers your constitution, current concerns, lifestyle, and wellness goals before recommending an appropriate approach.

02

Preparation

You are comfortably positioned on the treatment table. Depending on the treatment plan, gentle preparation such as head, neck, or shoulder massage may be included before the main therapy.

03

The Shirodhara

A specially designed vessel is positioned above the forehead. The selected warm therapeutic liquid is then allowed to flow in a gentle, continuous stream across the forehead for the prescribed duration.

04

Relaxation & Rest

After the therapy, you are given time to rest and gradually return to your normal routine. Your practitioner may provide personalised post-treatment guidance depending on your overall Ayurvedic care plan.
